alternative energy cars batteries

Much has been in recent years the problem of global warming. There is an obvious need for families to use alternative energy technology. Alternative Energy technology is both the process and end product of research and development into energy sources that are not from fossil fuels. This form of technology has in several products, the customers can use today run. Here are five useful products of alternative energy technology.

1. Hybrid cars – hybrids are semi-electric, half gasoline- Cars. Most of the hybrids on the roads today, with costs, but use the transfer of kinetic energy into electricity, which is stored in fuel cells. Hybrid allow a car to get more miles on a single tank of fuel, requires less fuel and produce less smog.

2. Electric cars – electric cars run charged purely on fuel cells. These cars must be plugged to charge. Many of the early electric cars were only able to drive about 100 miles on one charge. However, with improvements in battery technology, newer cars drive up to 300 miles per charge. These cars use lithium-ion batteries, which are basically large versions of mobile phone batteries.

3. Geothermal heating / cooling – During the colder months, with the temperature underground is warmer than the air above. The earth is cooler in summer. A geothermal unit utilizes this fact by extraction of the warmer or cooler air to heat and cool a house. The only disadvantage of these devices is that they are expensive, but rather, they often pay for themselves within five years.

4. Solar Power – Solar energy, along with geothermal and wind power a renewable Energy source. Solar panels capture the energy from the sun in photovoltaic cells and convert this energy into electricity. Solar power technology has been for a while now and there are many to take advantage of opportunities to use this solution for home or portable. Some future hybrid vehicles have solar panels on the roof to help power will the heating and cooling system when the car is shut off.

5. Wind energy – wind power converter uses windmills or wind turbines, the production of wind energy into electricity. As the blades rotate, they generate energy that can be stored in battery cells or wired to a house, the main switch. Although it can sometimes be unsightly, Wind mills can produce a good amount of power, and drastically reduce or even eliminate power bills.

There are more excited everyday technologies found in this race for the best alternative energy source. The best part is that consumers benefit when creating a cleaner environment.

Materials Challenges in Alternative and Renewable Energy

Materials Challenges in Alternative and Renewable Energy

$83.5

Materials Challenges in Alternative & Renewable Energy (Energy 2010) was an important meeting and technical forum held in Cocoa Beach, Florida, on February 21- 24, 2010. The current Energy Conference- 2010 included 223 participants from more than 25 countries and included more than 160 presentations, tutorials and posters. The meeting brought together leaders in materials science and energy, to facilitate information sharing on the latest developments and challenges involving materials for alternative and renewable energy sources and systems. Energy 2010 marked the first time that three of the premier materials organizations in the US have combined forces, to co-sponsor a conference of global importance. These organizations included The American Ceramic Society (ACerS), ASM International, and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), representing each of the materials disciplines of ceramics, metals and polymers, respectively. Energy 2010 was highlighted by nine “tutorial” presentations on leading energy alternatives provided by national and international leaders in the field. In addition, the conference included technical sessions addressing state-of-the art materials challenges involved with Solar, Wind, Hydropower, Geothermal, Biomass, Nuclear, Hydrogen, and Batteries and Energy Storage.
